Cinque Terre isn't as well known to most Americans as the Amalfi Coast, but it's my favorite part of Italy's coastline. Granted, it is not exactly a secret from European tourists, but it truly is authentic. Cars cannot enter the 5 little villages that make up the Cinque Terre, so you can enjoy the narrow, cobbled streets and seaside views in peace. Vernazza, with its blue harbor, colorful boats, and pastel surroundings is--in my opinion--the most picturesque of all five. I could have sat here all day just taking in the view!
