Hagia Sophia (Istanbul, Turkey)

Turkey- Istanbul- Hagia Sofia Interior Dome 1

1.10.2013- Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia is world famous for a reason.  It was a marvel of its time, particularly its dome, and was the biggest church in Christendom for almost a thousand years.  (It later served as a Mosque and is now a  museum.)  The Cathedral of Notre Dame could fit in one of its side aisles.  It is remarkable that it was built in A.D. 537, especially the size of its dome.  Inside looking down from above the other tourists look like ants.  Standing there in this historical place that has see so much time pass and so much change really gives you pause to just how insignificant we each are in the grand scheme of things.
