Holocaust Memorial in Budapest (Budapest, Hungary)

Budapest- Hungary- Holocaust Memorial 1

12.10.2012- The Holocaust Memorial in Budapest is one of the saddest of its kind.  It is simply bronze shoes along the riverbank, however, the story behind it and what it represents is heartbreaking.  During WWII, as transportation became ‘too much work,’ Jews were lined up along this same riverbank and shot into the river.  The empty shoes represent where they stood and the horrors that they endured.  In this fun, colorful city, this is a stark reminder of some of its not so wonderful history.
