Coconut Farmer (Samana, Dominican Republic)

9.30.2012- Samana is definitely one of the poorest places I have ever visited, but it most certainly had its charms.  We spent a day here on a cruise ship stop-off.  We skipped the boat’s excursion in favor of a more local trip and went horseback riding around the peninsula with a local guide and his wife (for much cheaper that a boat excursion).  It was a wonderful experience but definitely eye-opening as to how some of the people of the island live.  We stopped off and gave some of the local children school supplies while we were there, and something so little made them so happy; it definitely made me appreciate all that we have.
